MRO REVIEW
MRO review is required for every Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test. It is highly recommended that employers utilize the services of an MRO for all drug tests, even if not required by state law. An MRO protects the employer from having to make decisions regarding an employee’s claim that his or her drug test result was caused by a medical reason and guards employers from having to deal with complicated issues related to the release or disclosure of private employee medical information.
Prime’s team of certified Medical Review Officers will assist you with expert guidance as your first line of defense for your drug testing program. As a Prime partner, you’ll have access to our highly qualified team of physicians certified by the American Association of Medical Review Officers (AAMRO) and/or the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC), with extensive experience in the review of DOT & Non-DOT drug tests.
MRO LAB REVIEW
Our MROs review lab results to assure the correct test was performed and that the correct procedures were followed by the collector. When a drug test is reported positive by the test lab, the MRO’s office contacts the donor (donor of the drug screen test sample) to determine if there is a legitimate medical explanation for the positive lab result. Positive lab results can be caused by a number of prescription medications. In these cases, the MRO checks whether there is a valid prescription or recent medical treatment.
If there is a legitimate, verified medical reason for the positive lab test result, results are reported to the employer as negative. Based on the safety related medical issues discovered during the MRO process, our MRO will make a further recommendation to the employer for an additional safety sensitive duty evaluation.
